Island FCU Gives $20,000 for Scholarships
Hauppauge, May 7, 2012 – Continuing its 20-year tradition, Island Federal Credit Union announced that it will award a total of $20,000 in scholarships to high school seniors looking to continue their education. The Hauppauge-based credit union will award 20 scholarships equaling $1,000 each.
Applications, which are available at www.islandfcu.com and at all Island branches, are due May 25, and the 20 winners will be randomly drawn on June 1.
The scholarship program is open to high school seniors who are or become members of the Credit Union and have been accepted into a program of full-time undergraduate study as a freshman at a university, college, community college or recognized vocational school. High school seniors who are not currently members can open a savings account and become a member at any Island location at no charge. Adults age 18 and above can open a membership online at www.islandfcu.com as well. Once a member, high school seniors can immediately apply for the Scholarship. Membership in Island FCU is open to anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in Nassau or Suffolk counties, with the exception of the townships of East Hampton, Southampton and Shelter Island. A list of the winners will be published in the Island Quarterly newsletter and on Island’s website, www.islandfcu.com, as well as posted in branch locations.
“We at Island Federal Credit Union take great pleasure in helping our young members continue their education and pursue their personal goals in life. Over the past 20 years, Island has helped 210 high school graduates realize their goals,” said Bret W. Sears, President/CEO, Island Federal Credit Union. “Island realizes how important it is for our young people to get a good start on their futures, especially in these trying times, and this program helps make that possible. “
Since the inception of the Scholarship Program in 1992, Island FCU has given out over a quarter million dollars in awards to local high school seniors.
