Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union awards $1,500 to Hidden Battles

As the New Year rang in, Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union closed out the last Give-A-Click campaign of 2017 with Hidden Battles as the winner. Hidden Battles received a $1,500 donation from the Credit Union’s We Share A Common Thread Foundation.

The Give-A-Click program runs every quarter on the Credit Union’s We Share a Common Thread Foundation website. Community members visit the site, learn about three worthy non-profit organizations, and cast their vote for the one they would like to support. The organization with the most votes at the end of the quarter is awarded a $1,500 donation from the Foundation.

“We’re super excited that we won,” said Scott Hyder, Founder and President of Hidden Battles. “Jeanne D’Arc has been helping us from the beginning.”

Hidden Battles works to preserve the healthy minds of veterans, fire fighters, police officers and first responders who struggle with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), job related stress, traumatic brain injuries and the struggles of entering back into civilian life after discharge. The organization offers treatment and counseling through confidential meetings among clients and interactive workshops.

“Hidden Battles is a wonderful organization that provides a safe haven for veterans and first responders who have committed their lives to protecting our country and our local neighborhoods,” said Mark S. Cochran, President and Chief Executive Officer of Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union. “We are proud to name them our Give-A-Click winner,” he added.

Hyder says the donation will fund scholarships to help two community members further their education in the mental health field.

Hyder, a Westford police officer and Army veteran, founded Hidden Battles in June 2017. After his brother took his own life in 2012, Hyder joined a local suicide prevention and awareness team, “Team Forever Young”, and participated in numerous Out of the Darkness Walks. He wanted to do more than raising funds and awareness, so he started an organization of his own to give veterans and all first responders the opportunity to come together and work through their internal struggles.

Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union was also honored to feature Nevins Family of Services and Recreational Adult Resource Association (RARA) as nominees in the 2017 fourth quarter Give-A-Click campaign.

The 2018 contest kicked off on January 1st with the following organizations vying for the next donation: Servants for Haiti, Renaissance Club and The Psychological Center.

Voting is now open at WeShareACommonThread.org, and all community members are encouraged to visit the website to cast their vote.
