LOWELL – Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union is pleased to announce that Steve Jones, Vice President-Community Development, was named a 2012 Credit Union Hero by Banker & Tradesman.

Mr. Jones was one of only 11 people from Massachusetts’ credit unions to receive this honor. The award is designed to recognized credit union professionals who go above and beyond to better their institution and their community. The Credit Union Heroes award celebrates those individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the industry and the community, giving freely of their time, energy and resources for volunteerism, community service and charity.

“We are very proud of Steve for the work he does to help those less fortunate and to improve the community in which he lives and works,” said Mark S. Cochran, President and Chief Executive Officer of Jeanne D’Arc Credit Union.  “Steve exemplifies the concept of community service and the overall mission of the credit union. His passion for helping people is evident in his actions each day.”

Mr. Jones, nominated by a Lowell non-profit organization, is well known throughout the Merrimack Valley for his commitment to the community and toward helping those in need. The entry cited the numerous boards and committees on which he serves. It also pointed out that Mr. Jones is quick to roll up his sleeves to do volunteer work and to raise much-needed funds for numerous charitable organizations. The nomination stated: “Steve Jones is truly an extraordinary person, with a ready smile and compliment for anyone, a positive attitude and the willingness to help wherever he is needed. He is one of our community’s most treasured assets.”

Mr. Jones received his award during a September 10th ceremony at the Hyatt Regency Boston.
