Joseph A. Melbourne, Jr. to retire as President/CEO of CFE Federal Credit Union; Kevin S. Miller selected to succeed
LAKE MARY, FL (March 28, 2017) — CFE Federal Credit Union’s Board of Directors announced that Joseph A. Melbourne, Jr. is retiring as President and Chief Executive Officer, effective March 31, 2017.
Melbourne has been with CFE for 22 years, serving as President and CEO for the past 19 years. Under his leadership, the credit union grew from $373 million in assets and ten branches to nearly $1.7 billion with 22 branches, 42 ATMs, a 24/7 call center, and a robust suite of electronic channels including mobile banking with remote deposit capture. In 2006, Melbourne was instrumental in converting the credit union to a community-based charter, a key reason for the rapid expansion to serve nearly 150,000 members in Central Florida. More recently, he has guided the credit union’s strategic initiative to form partnerships with educational institutions in the market, including the University of Central Florida, the second largest university in the nation; Seminole State College; and Strayer University.
Melbourne has served in a leadership capacity for both the credit union industry and the Central Florida community. His industry board service includes the League of Southeastern Credit Unions Service Group, Credit Union Service Corporation, Florida Credit Union Shared Services, and the Cypress Group, among others. He currently serves on the UCF Foundation Board, and on the boards of A Gift For Teaching, Kids House of Seminole County, and the Florida Hospital Diabetes Board.
Mr. Melbourne was selected as the Professional of the Year by the National Association of Federal Credit Unions (NAFCU) in 2005. He was recognized for his leadership in educational excellence by the Orange County School Board in 2007. In 2008, he received a lifetime achievement award as Professional of the Year from the Florida Credit Union League. In 2014 Mr. Melbourne was listed among the Orlando Business Journal’s Central Florida CEOs of the Year.
“Joe Melbourne has led CFE to tremendous growth and a new standard of member service excellence during his tenure as President and CEO,” stated Mary Lynn Williams, Chair of the Board of Directors for CFE Federal Credit Union. “His leadership and vision have fueled CFE’s corporate commitment to meet the needs of our growing membership, particularly younger members, by constantly evolving. The Board wishes Joe and his family the very best in retirement.”
Kevin S. Miller has been selected by the Board of Directors to succeed Melbourne as the credit union’s next President and Chief Executive Officer upon Melbourne’s retirement on March 31, 2017.
Miller is currently Executive Vice President, Chief Administrative Officer, and General Counsel for CFE. Born and raised in Michigan, he graduated from the University of Pittsburgh and earned his JD degree from Emory Law School in Atlanta. Miller has also obtained the NAFCU Certified Compliance Officer designation and completed the Credit Union Executives Society (CUES) Certified Chief Executive program. Since joining the credit union in 2004, he has held responsibility for Regulatory Compliance, Legal, Collections, Human Resources, Card Services, Business Services, Facilities, and Development. Previously, Miller was an attorney at Graham, Builder, Jones, Pratt & Marks, an Orlando law firm.
Mr. Miller has served on numerous charitable boards in the community. He is currently a member of the Board of the Foundation for Seminole State College and the Board of Galileo School for Gifted Learning. He also serves on the Seminole County Public Schools Budget Review Committee and is a former Chair of The Foundation for Seminole County Public Schools.
“We are fortunate to have Kevin S. Miller, a seasoned leader within CFE’s senior management team, to continue our direction and momentum into the future,” said Williams. “His passion for service, astute business acumen, and foresight will serve CFE well in the years to come.”
