KEMBA Financial Credit Union promotes two leaders as C-suite executives

KEMBA Financial Credit Union, the largest Central Ohio-based credit union, with more than 126,000 members and $1.9 billion in assets, announces the C-level promotions of Shernette Henry to Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) and Doug La Tour to Chief Risk Officer (CRO).

In her new role, Henry – who previously served as the Vice President of Human Resources for more than 5 years – will be responsible for developing and executing human resource strategy, specifically in the areas of succession planning, talent management, organizational and performance management, training and development, and compensation as well as continuing to oversee all HR-related functions.

“Shernette has made a positive impact at KEMBA from day one,” said Mark Decello, KEMBA’s President and CEO. “She believes in our mission, values our associates, and is poised to lead KEMBA’s workforce as we continue to grow.”

In addition to her 16-year tenure in the HR field, Henry holds a bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, a SRHM Certification, and is a Gallup Certified Strengths Coach. Likewise, she’s active in the Credit Union movement, and serves as a Board member of the Ohio Credit Union League Political Action Committee (OCULPAC).

As the newly named CRO, La Tour – who began as the Vice President of Risk Management nearly four years ago – will continue to lead the Risk initiatives at KEMBA, including the oversight of the Enterprise Risk Management Function where he’s responsible for assessing and mitigating significant risks to the organization. Additionally, he’s responsible for Compliance, Fraud Prevention, Legal, Facilities Management, and Internal Audit.

“Oversight of KEMBA’s risk-related functions is a very important role,” said Decello. “I’m confident under Doug’s leadership, KEMBA will continue to perform to the very highest industry standard as we grow,” he added.

While he has more than 35 years of industry experience, La Tour also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and an MBA from Franklin University. He’s an accredited Certified Fraud Examiner as well as a Credit Union Enterprise Risk Management Expert.

“As CEO, it’s my duty to create an effective leadership team that complements our strategic objectives,” Decello said. “Both Shernette and Doug have proven to be key leaders at KEMBA, and I’m honored to recognize their contributions with these well-deserved promotions.”
