Kirtland Federal Credit Union distributed three scholarships at its annual scholarship breakfast last month. Kirtland Federal Credit Union President/CEO awarded Brianna Sanchez a $2,000 scholarship for the University of New Mexico, Karina Adam was awarded a $1,500 scholarship for the University of New Mexico, and Caleb Bock was awarded $1,000 for New Mexico Tech. In addition to their scholarships, each awardee received a free laptop computer, school supplies, and a $200 gift card courtesy of Target.
The three were among more than 30 scholarship applicants who submitted essays on the topic “How has your family background affected how you see the world? How will you use this viewpoint to help you achieve your educational and career goals?”
Sanchez is pursuing a medical degree, Adam is pursuing a biomedical engineering degree and Bock is pursuing a materials engineering degree.
Kirtland FCU’s Club F.I.T. Scholarship program awards graduating seniors one of three scholarships to help them pursue their college or trade school education. The scholarship program is offered as the capstone to the Club F.I.T. program at the credit union, which aims to foster and encourage smart savings and spending habits in young adults.
“One of Kirtland Federal Credit Union’s main missions is to support our community, and there is no better way to complete that mission than by supporting the future generations of that community,” Shoemaker said. “Secondary education, attending college or a trade school, translates into lifelong financial stability for the student and a brighter future for them, their family, and the generations that will follow.“
