LAFCU CEO Patrick Spyke elected board chair of technology provider

LAFCU CEO Patrick Spyke has been elected chair of the board of directors for Member Driven Technologies. MDT provides technology services to more than 100 U.S. credit unions, cumulatively representing nearly 2 million members and more than $26 billion in assets.

The Farmington Hills-based credit union service organization, or CUSO, hosts the Episys core platform from Symitar, as well as dozens of seamlessly integrated solutions and supporting services to help run the entire institution, including digital banking, payments, lending, cybersecurity, check processing and imaging. LAFCU is one of MDT’s four credit union owners.

“Pat is an exceptional leader who is passionate about using technology to advance member service and increase efficiencies,” said Larry Nichols, MDT president and CEO. “His guidance and counsel will help MDT deliver the modern, secure technology and services needed to successfully support our credit unions for years to come.”

Spyke believes MDT's success is the result of both leading technology and cooperation.

“Technology is increasingly impacting the member experience,” Spyke said. “MDT enables credit unions to better compete with the myriad financial institutions while sharing cost of its technology with all MDT credit union clients.

“MDT is a way for credit unions to benefit from their cooperative nature. We are stronger when we work cooperatively; and when we work together, there is no telling what we can achieve.”

Technology is an area Spyke has tenaciously leveraged to benefit LAFCU members throughout his 30 years at the Lansing-based credit union. He was promoted to CEO in 2016. Four years later, LAFCU was named a Best Credit Union to Work For by Credit Union Journal. Today, the credit union employs approximately 150 and serves more than 70,000 people and businesses throughout Michigan.
