LAFCU giving away free internet hotspots to help students, adults connect during pandemic

May 8 application deadline for 40 households to receive 3-month internet accessibility

LAFCU, in partnership with the Michigan Credit Union Foundation, has opened applications for the LAFCU Hotspot Program.

As part of the program, 40 or more hotspots with three months of internet connectivity will be given to selected applicants from the mid-Michigan area. The application deadline is Saturday, May 8.

“The pandemic has illuminated the disparity that exists with regard to internet access,” said Kelli Ellsworth Etchison, LAFCU chief marketing officer and chief diversity officer. “Because access to the internet is vital to many necessary endeavors, LAFCU is offering this community giveaway to help students participate in distance learning and for adults to connect to online education, job searches, health care information, public assistance and other critical services."

Applicants are asked to include a description of their situation and personal need in the short application. For more information and to apply, visit the Michigan credit union’s website at www.LAFCU.com/hotspot.

MCUF is a nonprofit foundation that helps credit unions improve Michigan communities through support of financial education, community reinvestment and professional development.
