LAFCU raised funds & volunteered at the food bank
LOS ANGELES, CA (October 23, 2023) — LAFCU raised $15,100 for the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank this past August. The fundraising focused on collecting monetary donations in our branches, by phone, through the transfer/donation tab in our mobile app and online banking and from a PayPal link on our website. A total of $10,100 was initially raised; then an additional $5,000 was matched from the Los Angeles Charitable Association, Inc. (LACA), a 501(c)3 nonprofit charity. Every $25 raised or donated paid for 100 meals for LA County residents facing food insecurity.
On Saturday, September 23, at the Food Bank warehouse south of downtown Los Angeles, a team of 17 LAFCU volunteers helped pack 285 boxes of cabbage & 155 boxes of potatoes. This amount will feed one meal each to 2,200 people who will each get a 5 lb bag of food.
Since its inception 50 years ago in 1973, the Food Bank has distributed over 1.5 billion meals to food-insecure people in Southern California. The Food Bank has 600 partner agencies in LA County that provide food to 870,000 households every month.

About LAFCU (CA)
LAFCU was founded in 1936 by 13 Los Angeles, California City Employees to give employees a safe, low-cost, and convenient source to borrow and save money. They gathered $65 to form the “Los Angeles City Employees Federal Credit Union.” In 1987, the name changed to Los Angeles Federal Credit Union to reflect a growing field of membership, which started to include immediate family members of City employees and individuals who lived in the same household as a current member. In 2006, LAFCU expanded its field again to include residents living in the Greater Los Angeles Metropolitan Area by establishing the Los Angeles Charitable Association, Inc. (LACA). LACA is a 501(c)3 nonprofit charity that has donated over $700,000 to other charities.
