LAFCU remembers Mary Gullett
Long-time employee ‘trailblazer’ for member services, valuable volunteer in retirement
LANSING, MI (November 7, 2017) — Mary Gullett, known to many in Michigan’s credit union community, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2017, in Lansing at the age of 76. She was revered as a dedicated employee and champion for member services at LAFCU as well as a valuable volunteer on LAFCU’s credit committee in her retirement.
“Mary is beloved by many within LAFCU and well thought of throughout the credit union industry,” said Patrick Spyke, LAFCU CEO. “She worked tirelessly for the financial betterment of LAFCU members and was a trailblazer who brought home equity and credit card products to members in the 1980s. She was also instrumental in the creation of LAFCU’s mortgage products.”
Gullett worked for the mid-Michigan credit union for more than 30 years, joining in 1970 as a teller and retiring in 2001 as manager of the real estate department, which she helped develop.
Following retirement from LAFCU, Gullett continued to provide her extensive knowledge and wealth of experience to benefit the credit union’s membership as a member of LAFCU’s Credit Committee. She was elected by LAFCU members in 2005 and served on the committee until earlier this year when her health prevented her from doing so. The volunteer group meets twice monthly to monitor lending and address lending-related issues, including reviewing denied loans and working with members for possible solutions.
Kelli Ellsworth Etchison, senior vice president of marketing, said, “I was fortunate to have worked directly for Mary in the real estate department for many years. Like countless others at LAFCU, I believe that she was a great leader, extremely intelligent, creative and always thinking outside the box about how LAFCU could better serve members.”
