Lake County Wildfire Relief Fund re-opened in response to Clayton Fire

UKIAH, CA (August 16, 2016) — Mendo Lake Credit Union and North Coast Opportunities (NCO) have re-opened the Lake County Wildfire Relief Fund in response to the Clayton Fire, which has already destroyed at least 175 structures in Lake County. Thousands of people remain under mandatory evacuation as firefighters continue to battle the blaze, and Governor Brown has declared a State of Emergency.

Monetary donations are being accepted at all Mendo Lake Credit Union and Savings Bank of Mendocino County branches. Donations are also being accepted via PayPal, which is linked from NCO’s front page: More details about how fire survivors can apply to the fund will be forthcoming.

In 2015, MLCU and NCO partnered to establish the Lake County Wildfire Relief Fund in response to the Rocky, Jerusalem, and Valley Fires. The Valley Fire was declared a federal disaster with over 1200 homes lost, and the fund disbursed approximately $1.6 million in direct aid to more than 1,000 survivors.

As with previous fires, the goal is to direct 100% of donations to fire survivors, and Mendo Lake Credit Union will help offset the administration costs incurred by NCO.  NCO is a 501c3 organization that serves as the Community Action Agency for Lake and Mendocino Counties.

“Our hearts go out to those affected by the most recent fires – especially given the short time frame from last year’s devastating events. MLCU is thankful to have a solid partner in NCO to be able to reactivate our efforts to help assure that fire victims get immediate aid when they most need it”, noted Richard Cooper, MLCU CEO.
