Lake Michigan Credit Union announces 2020-21 Hutt Scholarship Essay Contest winners

GRAND RAPIDS, MI (May 6, 2021) — Established in 1990 by Lake Michigan Credit Union (“LMCU”), the annual Lloyd F. Hutt Scholarship essay contest provides local high school seniors with the opportunity to win one of twenty $2,000 college scholarships. This scholarship program honors the legacy of LMCU founder, Lloyd F. Hutt, and his lifelong commitment to education and community involvement.

This year’s essay topic was:

“A Day in the Life. Describe one day in your life from the past year.”

Applicants were required to write an original 750-1,500 word essay exploring the topic. Essays are were evaluated by a panel of independent judges, with the greatest emphasis placed on passion for the topic, creativity, clarity, and originality.

Since 1990, the Lloyd F. Hutt Scholarship has provided over $460,000 in scholarship dollars to 272 local high school seniors. This year,1,346 students entered their essays.

LMCU’s Community Relations Manager, Alexis Reame, congratulated this year’s winners, “This year’s competition was one of the toughest yet. The twenty winning essays stood out to our judges for their extraordinary passion and strong connection to the topic. We want to congratulate this year’s scholarship recipients and the class of 2021 for their determination, perseverance and success, both in and out of the classroom.”
