Lake Michigan Credit Union wins Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award
GRAND RAPIDS, MI (October 24, 2017) — Credit Union National Association (CUNA) and Michigan Credit Union League (MCUL) have announced that Lake Michigan Credit Union (LMCU) is the Michigan state-level winner of the Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award. CUNA’s Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Community Service Award recognizes model credit union efforts to strengthen local institutions and materially improve the lives of nonmembers through community outreach programs.
LMCU’s award-winning program, Santa Squad, focused on giving back to the community in a different way each day throughout the month of December. The initiative also offered assistance to many different causes, including a clothing drive for the Women’s Resource Center of Grand Rapids, a wheelchair ramp build for a local homeowner in partnership with Home Repair Services of Kent County, surprise treat deliveries to over 50 public service agencies, and much more.
LMCU President/CEO Sandra Jelinski said, “As our team prepares for the fourth year of Santa Squad, it has been very exciting for all of us to see the lasting impact this initiative has had. We’re honored to receive this CUNA award, and look forward to continuing service efforts within our communities.”
As a state-level CUNA Award winner, LMCU will go on to compete against other state league winners for a CUNA National Award. CUNA National Award winners will be announced at the CUNA Governmental Affairs Conference in February 2018.
