Lake Michigan Insurance Agency purchases Kalamazoo’s Minor Field Insurance Agency
GRAND RAPIDS, MI (August 31, 2016) — Lake Michigan Insurance Agency (LMIA), a division of Lake Michigan Credit Union (LMCU) is pleased to announce its purchase of Minor Field Agency of Kalamazoo, MI. This merger represents a number of positive developments for the clients of both LMIA and Minor Field.
Minor Field Agency has its original roots as Field Agency, founded by Scott Field in 1927. Current president Art Skogsberg bought Field Agency in 1983 and acquired Minor Agency in 1989, combining the two into Minor Field. Current vice president Tom Magrath bought into Minor Field in 1996 as a full partner and equal owner, and will be retiring as the LMCU purchase comes to fruition.
Minor Field Agency has served the insurance needs of Kalamazoo as an independent agency, providing both personal and commercial lines of insurance.
Art Skogsberg commented, “This change of ownership will most definitely be a positive for all concerned – clients, LMIA and Minor Field. Combining our two agencies will provide all our customers with access to a larger, more dynamic portfolio of insurance products. Both agencies have considerable talent and expertise in all lines of insurance. And we both have steadfast commitments to the highest levels of customer service. Our clients will also gain access to LMCU’s leading, banking, investment and lending services.

“I will remain at the wheel of our Kalamazoo office, as will most of our employees. We are truly excited about this new phase and the opportunities that lie ahead.”
Minor Field Agency is located at 5865 Venture Park Dr, Kalamazoo, MI 49009.
LMIA President of Insurance, Kenneth Jansen, appreciates what the Minor Field brings to the LMCU fold. “The acquisition of the Minor Field gives Lake Michigan Insurance Agency an office in Kalamazoo to help service the needs of our existing credit union members, while expanding our current client base. Art’s continued presence betters our ability to find the best coverage at the best price for our clients. He is a tireless advocate for his clients, and I’m very excited about how this new alliance serves everyone concerned.”
