League honors exceptional service from professionals, volunteers, credit unions with 2014 LSCU Awards

BIRMINGHAM, AL/TALLAHASSEE, FL (June 17, 2014) -- The League of Southeastern Credit Unions and Affiliates (LSCU) announced the recipients of the 2014 LSCU Awards. They were presented on Friday, June 13, during the Southeast Credit Union Conference and Expo (SCUCE) in Orlando. Three credit unions and four executives were recognized for their work and dedication to the credit union movement.

The awards highlighted professionals, volunteers, and credit unions that have made outstanding contributions to the development and growth of the credit union movement in Alabama and Florida. The Distinguished Service Award is the LSCU’s highest award. It recognizes a professional who has dedicated their career to credit unions. Each award was also accompanied by a video highlighting the good works of each recipient.

“The LSCU Awards signify the effort and member-focused approach by each of these recipients,” said LSCU & Affiliates President/CEO Patrick La Pine. “They represent some of the best and brightest of our industry and illustrate how credit unions work hard every day to help their members.”

The prestigious LSCU Award categories and winners were:

  • Distinguished Service Award: Larry Scott, past president/CEO, CAMPUS USA Credit Union
  • Professional of the Year: Arthur J. Wood, III, president/CEO, Railroad & Industrial Federal Credit Union
  • Young Professional of the Year: Stephen Taylor, teller and marketing services, Florida State University Credit Union
  • Volunteer of the Year: Lynne April, board director, Alabama Credit Union
  • Credit Union of the Year:
    • Up to $100 million in assets: Baptist Health South FL Federal Credit Union
    • $100-$500 in assets: First Commerce Credit Union
    • $500 or more: CFE Federal Credit Union

As part of his Distinguished Service Award, Scott’s picture will hang in the Credit Union House Hall of Leaders in Washington, D.C.

The recipients of the awards are chosen by the LSCU Awards Committee which is comprised of representatives from LSCU member credit unions with a focus on credit union and community improvement. The winner is ratified on the basis of the nominations and supporting information received.

The League of Southeastern Credit Unions & Affiliates represents 278 credit unions in Alabama and Florida with a combined total of $65 billion in assets and more than 6.5 million members.
