Levin, Waters, Foster and Mukherjee join NAFCU’s 2015 Congressional Caucus lineup

WASHINGTON, DC (September 14, 2015) — House Ways and Means Committee Ranking Member Sander “Sandy” Levin, D- Mich., House Financial Services Committee Ranking Member Maxine Waters, D-Calif., Rep. Bill Foster, D-Ill., and U.S. Department of the Treasury Counselor to the Secretary and Deputy Assistant Secretary for Financial Institutions Anjan Mukherjee have joined the growing list of distinguished speakers confirmed to address the National Association of Federal Credit Unions (NAFCU) 2015 Congressional Caucus, scheduled Sept. 14-17 in Washington.

Levin has been actively involved in the tax reform debate as ranking member of the House Ways and Means Committee. He has long expressed support for credit unions’ federal tax exemption.

Waters, ranking member of the House Financial Services Committee, has expressed her support for regulatory relief measures for credit unions and smaller financial institutions. 

Foster also serves on the House Financial Services Committee. Foster is also the only physicist in Congress. 

At the Treasury Department, Mukherjee oversees the Office of Financial Institutions Policy, the Office of Critical Infrastructure Protection and the Federal Insurance Office. Prior to joining the Treasury, Mukherjee was a senior managing director in the private equity area of Blackstone, an investment management firm. In 2008, he was part of President Obama’s transition team, focusing on matters of economics and international trade.

These individuals join a distinguished roster of speakers at NAFCU’s Congressional Caucus, including Rep. Patrick McHenry, R-N.C., both the U.S. House Chief Deputy Majority Whip and vice chairman of the House Financial Services Committee; Maria Contreras-Sweet, administrator of the Small Business Administration; and more.

NAFCU’s Congressional Caucus is the association’s credit union lobbying event of the year, bringing hundreds of credit union representatives to Washington to learn about and meet with lawmakers on the key issues affecting them and their consumer-members. The Congressional Caucus sponsors include NAFCU Services Corporation, MasterCard, CUNA Mutual Group, FHLBank Atlanta, Geezeo, and Triad Financial Services. It is open to NAFCU members and nonmembers.
