For members and employees of Listerhill Credit Union, it’s become an annual event.
But to many at the credit union, it’s also a labor of love.
Listerhill recently donated over $12,000 to the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life according to Drew Edwards, Marketing Project Manager with Listerhill.
Every year, Listerhill asks its members and employees which charitable organizations they wish to support through donations and fundraising. And every year, the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life always finishes in the top three, according to Edwards.
“I think it’s because cancer affects us all at some point in our lives,” said Edwards. “Whether it’s family, friends, co-workers, or even ourselves, cancer usually touches someone we know and never gives up.”
“So neither should we,” added Edwards.
This year, Listerhill raised most of its money through t-shirt sales at its branches while employees also held fundraising efforts at their Main Office over a three-week period.
“At Listerhill, we like to eat,” Edwards said. “We use food and fun to raise money as well as awareness for Relay for Life.”
In addition to its fundraising efforts, Listerhill is also a corporate sponsor for local Relay For Life events in some of the communities it serves. Listerhill’s combined donation to Relay for Life in 2018 totaled $12,177, according to Edwards.
