Local credit union promotes youth financial literacy through continued volunteer support

MELBOURNE, FLA (March 22, 2024) — Space Coast Credit Union (SCCU) promotes financial and professional literacy in Florida’s youth by donating and volunteering to support Junior Achievement during its Junior Achievement in a Day (JA in a Day), completing its latest program today Friday, March 22, at Quest Elementary School in Brevard County, Fla.

Approximately 80 SCCU Team Members volunteered their time and talent to help instill essential financial knowledge and career insights in more than 720 elementary school students throughout this nearly five-hour event. Additionally, the credit union donated a variety of goods and school supplies to each student, including pencils, erasers, cups and banks.

“Our Team Members are committed to making a positive difference in the lives of the incredible communities we serve every day,” said Timothy M. Antonition, president and CEO of Space Coast Credit Union. “It’s a privilege to know that what we accomplish with Junior Achievement today will benefit the workforce of tomorrow.”

This comes as an extension of SCCU’s longstanding dedication to supporting Junior Achievement. On Nov. 16, the credit union sponsored a JA Stock Market Challenge competition, introducing middle and high school students to the basic concepts, risks and benefits of the stock market and investing. Additionally, 46 SCCU Team Members volunteered during Junior Achievement’s Nov. BizTown® Takeover event in Coconut Creek, Fla.

Space Coast Credit Union is proud to have allocated thousands of combined volunteer hours, goods, supplies and nearly $10,000 through donations and sponsorships to Junior Achievement in the past year alone. Looking ahead, SCCU will continue to support Junior Achievement as a sponsor of its April 13 JA Gala.
