Local graduates partner with EECU to prepare for college success

Fresno, CA (May 16, 2025) |

A dedicated group of high school seniors from Kings Canyon High School in Dinuba have taken a significant step toward college success. These students recently became the newest members of Educational Employees Credit Union (EECU) after being awarded Cal Grants, which required them to have a checking or savings account for the funds to be deposited.

When staff from Kings Canyon Unified School District (KCUSD) learned about the students’ need for financial accounts, they partnered with EECU Reedley Branch Manager Priscilla Leal to coordinate appointments and transportation. As a result, the students were able to open their accounts during a special visit to the branch on May 15.

“It was a pleasure to assist these students in opening their accounts and helping them prepare for their next chapter,” Leal said. “At EECU, we’re committed to supporting our community, especially students who are working hard to achieve their educational goals.”

The group of seven graduates from the alternative high school overcame numerous personal and academic challenges on their journey to college. Their resilience and determination have not gone unnoticed.

“We are all so proud of these students from Kings Canyon High School,” KCUSD Communications Director Alisha Gallon said. “The same grit and determination that propelled them forward to finish high school will serve them well as they take the next step in their education. We’re grateful to EECU for making this process smooth and empowering.”

Thanks to the collaborative efforts of EECU and KCUSD, these students are now better prepared to manage their financial futures as they head into college life.

EECU has also partnered with KCUSD and districts throughout the region to implement a variety of financial education workshops for students of all ages. Its award-winning Wise Up program was specifically designed to help high school seniors prepare for making financial decisions in the real world.
