LAFAYETTE, LA (May 15, 2025) |
As students across the state prepare to step into the next chapter of their academic journeys, Maple Federal Credit Union proudly announces its 2025 scholarship recipients, honoring excellence, resilience, and a commitment to community.
At the top of this year’s award list is Shelton Lee Edwards, recipient of Maple’s prestigious Outstanding Scholar Award and a $5,000 scholarship. Shelton, an Accounting and Finance student at the University of Louisiana Lafayette, was selected not only for his academic promise but for the extraordinary courage and depth reflected in his scholarship essay.
“His strength in the face of tragedy is nothing short of inspiring,” said Nanci Wilson, vice president of member solutions at Luminate Louisiana Credit Unions. “But what moves me even more is his unwavering commitment to growth – pushing himself to be better, challenging his surroundings, and choosing to show up in this world with purpose and integrity. His words felt raw, honest, and deeply vulnerable – and that, to me, is the very definition of courage.”
Two additional scholarships of $2,500 each were awarded to Isabelle Marie Patin of Breaux Bridge High School, who will pursue Elementary Education at the University of Louisiana Lafayette, and Megan Noel Whittington of David Thibodeaux STEM Magnet Academy, who will study Nursing at the University of Louisiana Lafayette.
“We believe in showing up for our members the way they show up for their futures,” said Pamela Stelly, CEO of Maple Federal Credit Union. “These scholarships aren’t just awards – they’re an extension of our promise to be there with financial tools, compassion, and encouragement every step of the way.”
