LSCU honors Georgia State Senator Jason Esteves as 2023 Lawmaker of the Year

DULUTH, GA (February 1, 2024) — The League of Southeastern Credit Unions (LSCU) proudly recognizes Georgia State Senator Jason Esteves as the esteemed recipient of the 2023 LSCU State Lawmaker of the Year Award in Georgia. The decision was made during the LSCU Board of Directors meeting in December 2023, where strategic plans for 2024 were approved, alongside discussions highlighting the exceptional contributions of legislators supporting credit unions.

Senator Esteves, representing State Senate District 6 in Georgia, emerged as the unanimous choice for this prestigious accolade following extensive deliberations within the Georgia Advocacy Policy Committee and subsequent approval by the LSCU Board of Directors.

“I am thrilled to announce Senator Esteves as the 2023 State Lawmaker of the Year in Georgia by LSCU. His unwavering support for and dedication to the credit union movement have been exemplary,” said Sydney Seral, Vice President of Advocacy for LSCU and the Georgia Credit Union Association. “Senator Esteves consistently engages with constituents, advocating for crucial issues impacting financial institutions. As a Senate leader, he stands firm in ensuring appropriate legislative measures for the benefit of credit unions.”

Senator Jason Esteves, elected to the State Senate in 2022, boasts a distinguished career in public service and law. His prior role as the Board Chair of the Atlanta Public Schools (APS) Board of Education marked a transformative period characterized by equity promotion and financial reform within the school system. Esteves’ leadership elevated APS’s graduation rates to record highs, facilitated substantial staff remuneration increments exceeding $100 million, and bolstered APS’s fund balance while enhancing direct financial allocations to schools.
