LSCU honors Sens. Britt, Warnock, and Rep. Cammack as 2023 Federal Lawmakers of the Year

WASHINGTON, DC (March 12, 2024) — The League of Southeastern Credit Unions (LSCU) is excited to announce that Alabama Senator Katie Britt (R-AL), Georgia Senator Raphael Warnock (D-GA), and Florida Representative Kat Cammack (FL-03) have been named the 2023 Federal Lawmakers of the Year from their respective states. They were formally recognized this week at the America’s Credit Unions Governmental Affairs Conference in Washington, D.C.

“Last week, we were elated to honor three lawmakers who have distinguished themselves from the rest in their support of Southeastern credit unions and their 12 million members across Alabama, Florida, and Georgia. In their unmatched service, Senator Britt, Senator Warnock, and Congresswoman Cammack have gone above and beyond to protect access to critical financial services and empower consumers with the financial tools needed to succeed. We are fortunate to have leaders like Senators Britt and Warnock and Congresswoman Cammack advocating on our behalf in Washington,” said Grace Newcombe, Vice President of Federal Advocacy and Communications at LSCU.

After being nominated by the Federal Advocacy Policy Committee, the nominations for Sen. Britt, Sen. Warnock, and Rep. Cammack were unanimously approved by the LSCU Board of Directors following a discussion of their unrelenting support for credit unions and their legislative priorities.

“Local credit unions play a vital role in supporting Main Street communities across Alabama, from equipping small businesses and families with the resources they need to providing capital to the most underserved Alabamians,” said Senator Britt. “I am proud to partner with our state’s local financial institutions to ensure that every hardworking Alabamian, regardless of zip code, has the opportunity to achieve their American Dream.”

“I am honored to be named LSCU’s Georgia Lawmaker of the Year. Credit unions across the Peach State have long provided consumers a more community-oriented and member-focused banking experience, and I commend their work to help support Georgians along their financial journey,” said Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock, chair of the Senate Banking Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Protection. “As a member of the Senate Banking Committee, I am determined to do all I can to support the economic well-being of Georgia’s families, including championing policies that keep our credit unions and financial institutions strong and allow them to continue playing a critical role in our communities.”

“I have seen and experienced the profound impact that credit unions have on the lives of consumers across Florida. From helping a family buy their first home to empowering entrepreneurs with the capital they need to start a business, credit unions are committed to serving local communities across the Sunshine State,” shared Congresswoman Cammack. “I am honored to be recognized by Florida credit unions as their Lawmaker of the Year and look forward to continuing to work alongside them in making a difference for the 20+ million people who call Florida home.”

We are grateful to Sen. Britt, Sen. Warnock, and Rep. Cammack and appreciate their service on behalf of our members across their constituencies.
