LSCU’s Young Professionals Group raises more than $1.1K for No Kid Hungry

TALLAHASSEE, FL (May 11, 2020) — The League of Southeastern Credit Union’s (LSCU) Young Professionals Group (YPG) raised $1,185to support COVID-19 relief efforts during a recent virtual game night.

Before and during LSCU YPG’s CU Game Night on May 8, young professionals from Alabama, Florida and Georgia – as well as a few other special guests – donated $685 to benefit No Kid Hungry, an organization focused on providing meals to children who have been affected by school closures due to the pandemic. Alloya Corporate FCU, who sponsored the prizes for the game night, also contributed $500 toward the cause.

“Our young professionals like to network and to have fun – but they’re also committed to giving back to the community,” said Jordan Burroughs, vice president of member engagement for LSCU. “Our YPG wanted to provide a way for credit union professionals of all ages to get together during a tough time, but it was also important to support the COVID-19 relief efforts of a worthy organization like No Kid Hungry.”

Beyond the donation, the CU Game Night also gave young credit union professionals a way to network with each other, League contacts, seasoned credit union professionals and even a few credit union CEOs during what has become a socially isolating time. Participants played Bingo and competed in extra scavenger-hunt type challenges including wearing the funniest hat or wig and dressing in a holiday outfit.

“Our first virtual CU Game Night was a blast! This was such an amazing opportunity to bring CU professionals together. It allowed us to step away from some stressful times to have some fun and laughs,” said Michael Poucher, market executive at First Commerce Credit Union and president of the LSCU Young Professionals Coordinating Council.“Whether they were laughing at us or because it was fun is up for debate. I say probably a little of both!  What never ceases to amaze me is any time we bring our Young Professionals together, there is so much good that comes out of it. This time we raised over $1,100 to give back to No Kid Hungry! That’s the power of ‘People Helping People.’”
