Maine Savings Black Bear Debit Card program doubles success in year two
Over $41,000 now raised for University of Maine Athletics
BANGOR, ME (October 18, 2016) — Just two years into a five-year partnership with University of Maine Athletics to raise funds for student athletic scholarships, Maine Savings is pleased to announce the program has already raised $41,774.
“Many of our members are students, alumni, faculty, or staff at the University of Maine,” said John Reed, president and CEO of Maine Savings. “Many others are great fans of the Black Bears. The exclusive Black Bear Debit Card would not have been this successful without our members’ enthusiasm.”
During a special presentation at halftime at the University of Maine Black Bears homecoming football game on October 15, Maine Savings presented UMaine Director of Athletics Karlton Creech with a check for $28,752.55, this year’s proceeds from the Black Bear Debit Card program. That total is nearly double the $13,774.55 raised in the program’s first year. Maine Savings also thanked its thousands of Black Bear Debit Card holders for their continued support of the program.
For every purchase made with a Black Bear Debit Card, Maine Savings contributes $0.05 to Maine Athletics for the purpose of scholarships for student athletes at the University of Maine.
“Just as our athletes succeed as a team, UMaine Athletics relies upon teamwork with community leaders like Maine Savings,” said UMaine Director of Athletics Karlton Creech. “Given the program’s overwhelming success and continued growth heading into year three, Maine Savings has proven once again to be one of Black Bear Nation’s staunchest supporters.”
The Black Bear Debit Card is available to all Maine Savings members with a free RedWallet checking account. To learn more about the exclusive debit card and how to enroll, visit mainesavings.com or any Maine Savings branch.
