JACKSONVILLE, NC (August 2012)— Marine FCU’s President/CEO, Craig Chamberlin, took a pie in the face on what was the final day of fund raising that started mid July.

It came to the attention of the credit union that a member by the name of Sydney, age 4, was suffering from Rett syndrome. She is in need of a service dog to detect oncoming seizures and improve her quality of life. These types of dogs receive special training, which is very expensive. Chamberlin put out the call to his employees to help raise funds to assist Sydney’s parents with the cost.

In the true spirit of “People Helping People,” Marine FCU employees did everything from gift basket drawings, ice creams socials, paying to wear jeans, and selling meals to raffling off Chamberlin’s and the Executive Vice President’s parking spaces. The final day of fund raising ended with a pie in the face for Chamberlin, as well as Bob Dickerson, Executive Vice President, Jeff Clark, Chief Operations Officer, and Terry Shepard, Chief Financial Officer … the Fabulous Four as employees are calling them!

The final amount raised? Over $11,000 … enough to go a long way in covering the cost of Sydney’s service dog. The smile on her face? Priceless.
