Mayor issues proclamation recognizing Texas Trust’s Youth Advisory Council

MANSFIELD, TX – February 12, 2014 – Texas Trust Credit Union was recognized for its youth financial literacy program through a special proclamation.

David Cook, Mayor of Mansfield, issued a proclamation recognizing the credit union for its efforts in encouraging financial empowerment of the community's young people. The proclamation was issued in a special meeting of the 12-member Texas Trust Youth Advisory Council.

Texas Trust launched the Youth Advisory Council in 2011. The program teaches and equips high school students with basic financial skills to prepare them for college and beyond.

The Mayor cited Texas Trust's hands-on training as being essential to teaching youth about fiscal responsibility, which is essential to the economic vitality of the community.

The Youth Advisory Council members serve for a semester, participating in bi-monthly meetings in which they learn about personal finances, service leadership, marketing, and career opportunities in the financial field. They also participate in a service project and volunteer at community events sponsored by Texas Trust. In addition, the council members serve as a sounding board for youth-oriented financial products and services provided by the credit union.
