Mazuma Credit Union receives national award for Philosophy in Action

KANSAS CITY, MO (Mar. 3, 2014) -- Mazuma Credit Union is excited to announce that it has received national recognition for its work helping consumers find solutions to difficult financial situations. The recognition was a 2nd place win of the Louise Herring Award for Philosophy in Action, which was handed out at the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) conference in Washington, D.C. on February 26th. The award comes after a first place win in the state-level competition last October that recognized Mazuma for its social responsibility and community outreach efforts.

Mazuma was recognized for loan refinance programs, mobile banking, and most notably for a collections modification program which allows the Mazuma Recovery Team the flexibility to work one-on-one with members to find solutions for their specific financial situations. The program was created as a way to help the many members who were still feeling the impact of the 2008 economic downturn, and has helped members improve their payment record with Mazuma and with their other obligations.

"We see it as our responsibility to make the communities we serve happier places to live and work,” said Mazuma CEO Brandon Michaels. “I’d like to thank the Mazuma Team Members for all the hard work they put in to serve our Members. It's an honor to receive national recognition for the work we love to do every day."

The Louise Herring Award for Philosophy in Action recognizes credit unions whose efforts and programs materially improve members’ lives (in areas outside of personal finance education).

Established in 1948, Mazuma Credit Union serves more than 52,500 Members. Mazuma is open to membership for those living or working in Cass, Clay and Jackson Counties in Missouri and Johnson County in Kansas.
