(KANSAS CITY, Mo., April 29, 2011) – Mazuma Credit Union celebrated National Credit Union Youth Week by hosting Mazuma Rocks Week. Mazuma team members participated in Spirit Week during the same week.

During Youth Week, Mazuma gave away fun prizes to youth members and encouraged them to become a Savings Rock Star by depositing $10 or more into their account during the week. All youth members who deposited $10 or more into their account were put into a drawing for a $50 savings bond. Two $50 savings bonds were awarded to youth members Monday through Saturday. Giveaways included tattoos, coloring banks, mood pencils, guitar cutouts with games, activity books, and candy.

“Youth Week is all about the Mazuma team connecting with our members, especially our younger members,” said Andrea Kellgren, Branch Manager. “We provide prizes and educational tools to help youth understand the importance of saving for their financial future.”

Mazuma’s Annual Spirit Week coincided with Youth Week with “Rock-n-Roll” as its theme. Each day, Team Members wore attire to fit the song choice of the day. Songs, such as “I Wanna Rock and Roll All Night” (Pajama Day), “Old Time Rock and Roll” (Retro Day) and “We Will Rock You,” (Sports Team Day) were used to promote the theme-of-the-day.

Kellgren said, “This year’s theme was ‘My CU Rocks’ and our Team Members dressed in the ‘theme of the day’ of rock-n-roll song titles. We had more than 90% participation and our team had a great time by dressing up the entire week.”

Also, on Saturday, April 23, Mazuma hosted “Mazuma Rocks Day” by sponsoring a Guitar Hero contest for kids 8–17 and a coloring contest for kids under eight. From 10:30 to noon, kids came to the South Kansas City branch to participate in the contest. Along with their score from the Guitar Hero game, they were awarded additional points by Mazuma Team Members, Kathy Gates-Mosley and Justin Mouzoukos, for style and originality. The competition got heated with a tie-breaker needed to determine the winner. Fortunately, Mac, the Missouri Mavericks’ mascot of the Central Hockey League, was on hand to select the winner. The thirteen-year old boy won a $25 Visa® gift card for his performance of Michael Jackson’s “Beat It.”

Mazuma also waived the $5 initial deposit for youth opening an account during the week. Youth saved approximately $6,000 during the week and 16 new accounts were opened.
