East Windsor, NJ, August 27, 2012 – McGraw-Hill Federal Credit Union’s (McGraw-Hill FCU) Financial Literacy Series was recently ranked among the best financial literacy programs in the nation by NerdWallet.com, a personal finance website which promotes financial literacy and consumer-friendly banking. The Financial Literacy Series, free monthly financial education seminars tailored for local educators and consumers, earned the “Best for Teachers” designation in the ranking.
“We’re very pleased the Financial Literacy Series has been recognized as a valuable channel for consumers to get the educational resources they need to achieve financial wellness,” said Shawn Gilfedder, President and CEO of McGraw-Hill FCU. “We’re proud to provide financial education to area educators who can bring their learning into the classroom to strengthen financial literacy for future generations.”
The program is a partnership with the New Jersey Coalition for Financial Education and the McGraw-Hill School Education Group. Participating educators earn professional development credits toward the 9.2 Core Curriculum Content Standard: Personal Financial Literacy. Popular seminar topics have included: ways a green lifestyle can save you money, how to finance the car of your dreams, unique investment opportunities for women, and how to build and maintain your credit score. The initiative is part of McGraw-Hill FCU’s ongoing efforts to promote financial wellness and literacy within the local community.
“Credit unions are a great resource for free checking and loans, but many people don’t realize they also offer some of the most innovative financial literacy programs in the country,” says Laura Edgar, NerdWallet.com’s credit union specialist. “McGraw-Hill FCU recognizes the impact that teachers have on the community and makes them a core focus of their financial literacy outreach efforts. We think that’s fantastic!”
