Members 1st Federal Credit Union celebrates Kindness Week

MECHANICSBURG, PA (October 13, 2023) — Members 1st Federal Credit Union partnered with its state trade association, CrossState Credit Union Association, and other credit unions across Pennsylvania and New Jersey to celebrate the very first CU Kind Day. This day of kindness concept started at a credit union in Minnesota and has continued and expanded to credit unions across the country. The celebration is intended for credit union associates, members, volunteers and community partners to come together and do one simple thing – spread kindness.

Because of the kindness Members 1st associates already demonstrate each and every day, the credit union wanted to take it a step further and designated October 2 – 6 as “Kindness Week”. Throughout the week, the credit union carried out several creative ways to participate in the celebration, including a Random Acts of Kindness Challenge where associates shared photos and stories as well as “Kindness Cards” that featured messages of encouragement. And as a final way to spread some goodwill, the credit union provided a donation to Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central PA in the amount of $1,221 in honor of all of its 1,221 associates who participated in Kindness Week.

“Service is a core element of the social mission of all credit unions, and each day we are proud to carry out our own mission of serving our members, associates and communities through support, empowerment and meaningful relationships,” said Members 1st President & CEO Mike Wilson. “It is so very heartwarming to see and hear all of the impactful ways our faM1ly was ‘CU Kind’ during our inaugural Kindness Week. We are grateful to our friends at CrossState for all they do and for their commitment to the credit union movement.”

Credit unions put members and their communities first, so CU Kind Day further increases the cooperatives’ awareness and their impact on local communities. By doing something all on ONE day, the collective philosophy of “People Helping People” is put into meaningful action and the impact is maximized through random acts of kindness. As not for profit financial institutions, Pennsylvania and New Jersey credit unions work every day to improve their members’ financial lives.
