DETROIT, Mich. (August 22, 2012) – Twelve local non-profit organizations were this year’s recipients of funds raised through the Metro West Chapter of Credit Unions Annual Charity Golf Outing.
The Chapter’s 21st annual golf outing, held August 16 at Northville Hills Golf Club in Northville, attracted a record number of supporters, including 24 major sponsors, 44 hole sponsors and 144 golfers.
The outing included award presentations to representatives of the three charities receiving the top grants this year.
According to Lisa Fawcett, vice president of marketing for Co-op Services Credit Union and Metro West golf outing co-chair, the Chapter received a record number of 47 grant applications. Fawcett said, “With so many incredible organizations doing noteworthy work within our communities, it was a very difficult task for the committee to narrow down our choices to just 12 recipients.”
The Metro West Chapter awarded $2,500 each to The Center for Urban Youth, My Brother’s Keeper and YWCA of Metropolitan Detroit–Interim House. Receiving $1,000 awards each were Alternatives for Girls, Belleville First United Methodist Church Food Closet, Detroit Omega Foundation, Golightly Academy of Finance and The Moon Ministry.
Canton Community Foundation, Detroit Cristo Rey High School, Detroit Diaper Bank and Starfish Family Services received $500 each.
The Metro West Chapter of Credit Unions is a chapter of the Michigan Credit Union League (MCUL). Since 2005, Metro West has donated more than $116,00 to local organizations. The Chapter plans to accept grant proposals again next year, beginning in May.
