KINGSTON, NY – Mid-Hudson Valley Federal Credit Union (MHV) is offering local high school seniors the chance to win scholarships for college. MHV is again participating in the annual Credit Union Association of New York’s statewide credit union scholarship program, which provides credit union members with $500 or $1,000 scholarships.
To be eligible, students must be high-school seniors attending two- or four-year accredited educational institutions for the first time in the fall of 2012. They must also be members of MHV. To enter, students must return the completed form to credit union no later than January 20, 2012. For more information stop by any MHV branch location.
Students/applicants will be competing against other credit union members from across the state. Applicants will be judged based upon their academic achievements, extracurricular and community activities and the quality of written essays. Last year, the Credit Union Association of New York (CUANY) awarded $13,500 in scholarships through the program. One of the top ranking, 2011 statewide winners was student, Megan Michie of Rhinebeck who was awarded a $500 scholarship from CUANY.
“We are very pleased to help our local hard-working students with the high costs of a higher education by giving them the chance to win a scholarship,” says Bill Spearman, MHV President & CEO. “It proves that the ‘people helping people’ philosophy of the credit union movement is alive and well here in the Hudson Valley.
