Minnesota Credit Union leaders met with members of congress in Washington D.C.

WASHINGTON, DC (October 5, 2023) — Last week, for the Minnesota Credit Union Network’s (MnCUN) annual Hike the Hill event, credit union staff and board members met with the Minnesota Congressional delegation and the Chair and Vice Chair of the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) to discuss issues of importance to credit unions and the members they serve.

During their visits on Capitol Hill, the group met with the offices of U.S. Senators Amy Klobuchar and Tina Smith as well as members of the U.S. House and their staff. Meetings focused on credit union opposition to the Credit Card Competition Act and support of the SAFER Banking Act, which passed the Senate Banking Committee during Hike the Hill.

Additionally, Minnesota credit union leaders met with NCUA Chair Todd Harper and Vice Chair Kyle Hauptman and discussed streamlining the de novo credit union application process, credit union’s opposition to NCUA third party vendor oversight and how NCUA can support credit unions that provide services to cannabis businesses.

“In our meetings, Members of Congress and NCUA Board Members repeatedly shared how helpful it was to hear from credit unions how legislation and regulations directly impact credit unions and their members,” said MnCUN President and CEO Mara Humphrey. “This is a great example of how direct advocacy works and I thank the Minnesota Credit Union leaders who took the time to travel to Washington D.C. and speak on behalf of our industry.”
