Montgomery County Employees Federal Credit Union approved for community charter
GERMANTOWN, MD (January 29, 2019) — Montgomery County Employees Federal Credit Union (MC EFCU) of Germantown, Md., has been granted a field of membership expansion by National Credit Union Administration. MC EFCU will now be able to serve all those who live, work, worship, attend school or volunteer in the counties of Montgomery and Frederick in Maryland; the District of Columbia; and Alexandria, Falls Church, and Arlington County in Virginia.
“This is amazing news for us,” says Jim Norris, CEO of MC EFCU. “As an organization, we really took a look at how we could do more and reach more individuals in our communities.”
Coupled with the credit union’s recent CDFI grant award and Juntos Avanzamos designation, expanding
the field of membership will help the credit union provide better access to trusted financial services for underserved communities.
Previously, MC EFCU’s field of membership was limited to employees and family members of Montgomery County Government as well as employees of the credit union’s many Select Employee Groups (SEGs). “The employees of Montgomery County Government will always be at the core of our Credit Union. However, we realized that our narrow field of membership restricted us from serving our diverse and changing community. This expansion will allow us to take our philosophy of making banking simple to more people. It is an exciting time for us,” adds Norris.
MC EFCU will begin working with communities surrounding their existing branch locations in 2019.
