Mountain Credit Union’s Patty Idol announces retirement and successor

WAYNESVILLE, NC (July 6, 2020) — After 35 years of service at Mountain Credit Union, Patty Idol has announced she will retire this September.

After beginning her career with Mountain Credit Union (MCU) in 1985 as the Branch Manager in Waynesville, Idol has been the President / CEO since 1999. She was active in several credit union-related organizations, such as the National Association of State Chartered Credit Unions (NASCUS) and the Carolinas Credit Union League (CCUL). She served as NASCUS Chairman of the Advisory Council, as Chairman of the Carolinas Credit Union League Board, and as President of the Western Chapter of the CCUL. Idol also fought tirelessly on behalf of credit unions and their members as an advocate at both the State Capitol in Raleigh, NC, and Capitol Hill in Washington, DC.

“I’ve spent my entire adult life here. My daughter has quite literally grown up with Mountain Credit Union, and she’ll be 34 this year,” Idol said. “It’s a bittersweet decision, but it is time for me to spend more time with my family.”

Idol also announced that Mountain Credit Union’s Board of Directors has officially named Amy Woody as her successor. Woody is MCU’s current Executive Vice President. She also began her career with MCU in 1985 as a Member Service Representative and eventually became the Branch Manager in Fletcher, NC. She has over 29 years of credit union experience, including 23 years at Mountain Credit Union, and has held the position of EVP since 2003. She served on the Western Chapter of the CCUL Board from 2014 to 2018, and currently serves on the Carolinas Credit Union League Board and on the North Carolina Credit Union Division (NCCUD) Commission.

“Patty has meant so much to so many through the years, both professionally and personally, and she will be missed,” said Woody. “Mountain Credit Union has a wonderful team in place, and our future is very bright.” Woody’s first official day as President / CEO will be Monday, September 14, 2020.
