Mountain West Credit Union Association endorses Paul Babeu in Arizona House District 1 Race

DENVER, CO (August 10, 2016) — The Mountain West Credit Union Association (MWCUA), which represents 41 of Arizona’s credit unions announces it is endorsing Republican Paul Babeu in his bid for the open Arizona House of Representatives District 1 seat. The endorsement comes after extensive candidate interviews.

“In our interview, Mr. Babeu stated his desire to help those institutions operating in a manner that puts our state in a better position to grow its economy, and that commitment extends to credit unions,” said Scott Earl, President and CEO of MWCUA.  Additionally, Babeu has stated his support of common sense regulatory reform and lowering the tax burden, things of great interest to credit unions.

“Mr. Babeu was a vocal supporter of conservative financial principles that allow the economy to thrive and grow,” added Earl. “He stated his commitment to supporting those institutions whose purpose is to help foster financial success, and that included Arizona’s credit unions and their members,” he said.

Babeu is currently the Sheriff of Pinal County, and was named America’s 2011 “Sheriff of the Year,” selected by his colleagues in the National Sheriff’s Association. He is a decorated public servant with a strong commitment to safer borders and reducing public corruption.

Arizona Republicans will determine their candidate for the open House seat in the August 30 primary, with the winner heading to the November general election.
