MSGCU partners with State Representatives to promote financial education

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, MI (April 8, 2014) --  Michigan Schools and Government Credit Union (MSGCU) will partner with Representative Jim Townsend of District 26 in Royal Oak and Representative Anthony Forlini of District 24 in Macomb Township as part of the Michigan Credit Union League & Affiliates (MCUL) 11th Annual Financial Literacy Legislative Challenge. Credit unions across the state team up with local lawmakers to promote financial education to youth in the community.

“Financial education is a cornerstone of MSGCU’s mission,” said Peter Gates “It is a wonderful opportunity to be partnered with local lawmakers and MSGCU is proud to once again be participating in this great program.”

MSGCU will present with Representative Jim Townsend on Thursday, April 10 at Shrine Grade School from 1-2 p.m. and with Representative Anthony Forlini on Tuesday, April 22 at Iroquois Middle School from 8-9 a.m. and 10-11 a.m.

“Credit unions are invested in and committed to their members, even the youngest members,” said MCUL & Affiliates CEO David Adams. “Good financial skills are so important to instill and we’re proud to bring lawmakers into the classroom for the Financial Literacy Legislative Challenge, as we work together to make sure our students learn how to manage money.”

Michigan’s credit unions are national leaders in youth financial education all year long. MSGCU is proud to have been part of a financial education movement that reached nearly 58,000 students in 2013 with more than 3,200 classroom presentations and organizing more than 250 student-run credit unions across the state – the most in the country.
