Nearly 2,800 Iowans shred documents, protect identities at Community Shred Days

WATERLOO, IA (October 4, 2017) — Veridian Credit Union hosted two free Community Shred Days at five branches across Iowa recently, where approximately 2,800 Iowans protected their identities by shredding 69,643 pounds of unwanted, sensitive documents. Mobile shred trucks from Onsite Information Destruction, Inc. were stationed at select Veridian branches in Cedar Rapids, Iowa City and Waterloo on Saturday, September 30, and in Ankeny and West Des Moines on Saturday, September 23.

“We host Community Shred Days to remind our communities of the importance of shredding unwanted, sensitive documents,” said Trina Becker, Veridian’s manager of loss prevention. “It’s an easy step to help protect your identity, and events like this make it even more convenient.”

The events’ attendance and material shredded at each site was measured as follows:

The shredded material will be recycled into commercial grade paper towels, toilet paper and other paper products. Since Veridian’s first Community Shred Day in 2009, an estimated 30,000 attendees have shredded approximately 740,000 pounds of documents, saving more than 6,281 trees. Veridian’s next Community Shred Day will be scheduled for the spring.

Iowans protected their identity by shredding nearly 70,000 pounds of unwanted, sensitive documents at Veridian’s Community Shred Days September 23 and 30. Mobile shred trucks from On-site Information Destruction, Inc. were stationed at select Veridian branches in Ankeny, Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Waterloo and West Des Moines.
