NEFCU annual “Seasons of Giving” campaign awards $5,000 to local charities
ReesSpecht Life wins top prize of $2,500 from credit union
WESTBURY, NY (December 19, 2017) — NEFCU is spreading some holiday joy amongst Long Island charities this week with the conclusion of its “Seasons of Giving” program that saw Miller Place’s The ReesSpecht Life Foundation awarded $2,500 as this year’s top vote-getter among nearly 30 different local charities.
The program by the Westbury-based credit union awards a total of $5,000 to three different local charities. After asking Facebook users to nominate their favorite Long Island-based non-profit organizations, NEFCU invited the public to vote for the charity most deserving of the program’s funds. The ReesSpecht Life Foundation garnered over half of all votes (4,716) cast via Facebook. The Golden Paws Society of Huntington Station tallied the second-most votes, and was handed a check for $1,500. The third-place finisher, Birth and Beyond Resources (Patchogue), was awarded $1,000 from NEFCU.
The program began with a call for nominations on Giving Tuesday, Nov. 28, and concluded with the voting deadline of Dec. 18.
“Our ‘Seasons of Giving’ program allows us to reward those local charities that do so much for our communities,” said Valerie Garguilo, vice president of marketing and community relations at NEFCU. “Every one of these nominees makes Long Island a better place to live. They are all worthy of our awards and praise, and we thank all of them for the tireless and dedicated effort they put forth every day. They are true Long Island heroes.”
The ReesSpecht Life Foundation’s mission is to encourage others to perform acts of kindness through the distribution of “ReesSpecht Life” pay it forward cards. It provides scholarships, promotes water safety education and performs school assemblies on the power of kindness.
The Golden Paws Society is dedicated to the rescue of cats who have been housed in municipal shelters for an extended period of time and/or who exhibit a dire need of removal from the shelter setting. Birth and Beyond Resources supports women and families during pregnancy, birth and postpartum by providing resources, support and financial assistance.
