NEFCU hosts “Making the Cut” financial seminar for UVM student athletes
WILLISTON, VT (May 25, 2017) — On April 28th, New England Federal Credit Union (NEFCU) hosted Making the Cut, a financial seminar for the University Vermont’s (UVM) student-athletes. Over 100 athletes registered for the optional event to educate themselves on budgeting, saving, spending, and financial planning – topics in which most students surprisingly said they did not have much background.
Mike Bouffard and Shauna Taylor of NEFCU led the discussion in role-play fashion, acting as the average college student portraying typical spending habits and expenses.
Students were provided with resources to track spending, and identify where adjustments can be made to live within their means while putting money aside for savings. The session also gave students various tips on keeping a positive credit score, and how a good or bad score can affect one’s buying power as a consumer. The credit score they build and establish now will lead to much more secure financial future.
“New England Federal Credit Union is proud to work with the UVM Athletic Department to provide its students with the knowledge and skills they will need to take charge of their finances and improve their financial well-being” said Cindy Morgan, Senior Marketing Executive at NEFCU.
“New England Federal Credit Union has been a longstanding partner of Vermont Athletics and we are thrilled that our relationship has grown to include financial literacy for our student athletes’ development. I am proud that 100 students-athletes elected to participate in “Making the Cut”, displaying their drive to educate themselves and take ownership of their financial future,” stated Alicia Hawks, Manager of Business Development for Vermont Sports Properties of the University of Vermont.
