Neighbors FCU donates $500 and 881 pounds of food to GBR Food Bank

Neighbors FCU hosted an employee food drive to collect non-perishable food items for the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank. The staff donated 881 pounds of food, which will provide 734 meals for families in need. Additionally, the Neighbors Capitol Area Foundation made a $500 contribution to the Food Bank.

Team Impact organized this drive and provided prize drawings for employees that participated. Team Impact is a group of volunteer employees at Neighbors that organize and host events in an effort to make a better work environment at the credit union.

“Once again, our staff continues to live the Neighbors Way through their commitment and service to our community,” Neighbors President and CEO Steve Webb said. “We are inspired by their incredible generosity and will match it with a monetary contribution courtesy of the Neighbors Capital Area Foundation.”

This comes on the heels of the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank expressing concern about its need for donations in a WAFB Chanel 9 story.

“We know that we will have to be strategic and innovative in how we secure food right now with less supply and a more competitive environment,” President and CEO of the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank Mike Manning said to WAFB.

Neighbors has also worked with the Food Bank for the credit union’s annual day of community service, Neighbors Day, for each of the past two years. This year, 45 Neighbors employees volunteered with the Food Bank, sorting food supplies to feed 570 families.
