Neighbors FCU launches new granting initiative “Project Grants for Public Schools” to offer project funding to schools throughout the 9-Parish service region

BATON ROUGE, LA (April 6, 2021)

Neighbors FCU has launched the Project Grants for Public Schools (PGPS) granting program to offer project funding for public elementary, middle, and high schools throughout our 9-parish service region. NFCU has committed to injecting $50,000 into our service community each year by responding to applications that address long-term project needs within schools, including new or upgraded technology, school beautification, and facility improvements.

“Following the challenges of the past year, we are excited to expand the efforts of the Neighbors Capital Area Foundation” Neighbors President and CEO Steve Webb said. “With our new website launched and additional funding opportunities available, our focus is to continue supporting education and schools in our community for years to come.”

Schools interested in applying for a project grant must be a public or non-profit charter school operating in Neighbors’ 9-parish region: East Baton Rouge, Ascension, East Feliciana, Iberville, Livingston, Pointe Coupee, St. Helena, West Baton Rouge, and West Feliciana. The application period will run from Monday, April 5 to Monday, May 31 with decisions announced in June 2021. For more grant details and to apply visit https://www.neighborsfoundation.org/grants-and-programs/project-grants-for-public-schools/.

The mission of the Neighbors Capital Area Foundation is to create and support education-focused & community-driven initiatives in the greater Baton Rouge area. As we grow our initiatives, we seek to become an invaluable educational resource to underserved individuals and groups in our service community through scholarships, grants, and volunteer efforts.

Currently, the Neighbors Foundation raises funds via NFCU’s Free Cash Back Checking account program, the Employee Payroll Donation Program, and our yearly sporting clays tournament, Clays for a Cause being held on Friday, September 10 at Covey Rise Lodge.

As the Neighbors Foundation expands, it is our goal to inject $100,000 into our service community by the end of 2021 through $50,000 in Neighbors Way Tuition Assistance Award scholarships and $50,000 in grants through Project Grants for Public Schools.

About Neighbors Federal Credit Union

Neighbors Federal Credit Union is a not-for-profit financial cooperative operating as an  association dedicated to "people helping people." A handful of educators started Baton Rouge  Teachers in 1954 with a shoe box, a couple hundred dollars and the goal of making financial  services available to school system employees in our area.   Now, Neighbors Federal Credit Union is the largest community-chartered credit union in the  state of Louisiana with over 80,000 members and over $1 billion in assets. Since that time, Neighbors has undergone a variety of changes, but the mission has stayed the same: Enhance  members’ financial well-being and be a partner in the communities Neighbors serves.
