New Hampshire Governor jump starts the holidays with Make-A-Wish® kids and credit unions

MALBOROUGH, MA (November 28, 2016) — New Hampshire Governor and U.S. Senator Elect Maggie Hassan, surrounded by a crowd of Make-A-Wish® New Hampshire children and their families, as well as CEOs and representatives of the Cooperative Credit Union Association (CCUA) New Hampshire Credit Unions, gathered yesterday at a State House event marking the launch of the 2017 Make-A-Wish® calendar fundraiser. She also heard remarkable stories of youngsters whose wishes were granted with the help of credit union support from fundraising events held throughout the year.

Hassan made the first official purchase of the Make-A-Wish calendar, #81 for the Granite State’s 81st governor, from Wish children Renee, 16, and Carter, 8, whose stories are highlighted in the calendar. The two also presented her with a framed memento, autographed by each, that Hassan said she will display in her office.

“I am proud to join the credit unions in support of Make-A-Wish and their efforts to provide hope and joy for these courageous children whose strength and grace shows us how we can change their lives with a wish,” stated the governor. “It is a great reminder that good spirit and health go hand in hand.”

Brian Hughes, chairman of CCUA’s Social Responsibility Committee for NH and Holy Rosary Credit Union CEO, told the group he hopes to sell all 2,500 calendars, worth $43,000, now available at NH credit union members of the CCUA, a trade organization representing credit unions in four states.

Approximately 112 children in NH wait each year for their wishes to come true. Make-A-Wish New Hampshire granted 87 wishes last year. Julie Baron, the organization’s CEO, expressed her gratitude to the New Hampshire Credit Unions. “We are humbled and grateful for the dedication and passion of the credit unions who have been by our side for 20 years. As we begin our 30th year of bringing wishes to life, we are honored to celebrate these milestones with our most cherished partners,” she stated.

Attending yesterday’s event were representatives of CCUA member credit unions Bellwether Community Credit Union, Holy Rosary Credit Union, Members First Credit Union, New Hampshire Federal Credit Union, Northeast Credit Union, Service Credit Union, St. Mary’s Bank Credit Union, and Triangle Credit Union.
