New hot “spot” dedicated at Western Michigan University
KALAMAZOO, MI (April 15, 2016) — Freshmen residents of Western’s Stinson Hall have a newly revamped hangout spot thanks to Consumers Credit Union.
“The Spot” as it is officially referred to is a revitalized room on the first floor where students can study, meet in groups or even gather for late-night video gaming.
The space was dedicated Tuesday, April 12, at an open house, where Western students, staff and guests of Consumers gathered for a brief presentation and to enjoy the ultimate in college cuisine—pizza, of course.
“The room is not only beautiful but functional,” said Consumers Chief Marketing Officer Lynne Jarman-Johnson. “I love how students recharge with our charging stations, work together on projects, and connect socially. We are so proud to bring The Spot at WMU!” Agio Imaging and Bosch Architecture also partnered on the project.
The enhanced space was repainted and updated with new furnishings, including a desk recharge station to plug in mobile phones and laptops. The Credit Union also donated and maintains a large TV monitor in the Stinson lobby that displays rotating campus events, bus routes, and the weather.
“Consumers is a proud supporter of Western, and as a community partner is always happy to help educate students on career and financial education topics,” said Consumers @Work Manager Scott Dobson.
Dobson is among several Consumers employees who regularly collaborate with the Haworth College of Business Career Center by volunteering for resume and interview critique days and other career-related events. In fact, Consumers was named the Career Center’s 2014-15 Employer of the Year for their involvement on campus.
Consumers plans to use The Spot to host financial workshops and other career programming in the future.
