New interviews, hires at 2nd annual Cooperative Credit Union Career Fair

Following last year’s inaugural success, eight Northwest credit unions spoke to candidates seeking fulfilling career opportunities in financial services

PORTLAND, OR (September 13, 2019) — On Friday, eight credit unions teamed up again downtown to show jobseekers of all levels that our credit union movement has a place for them. Last September’s innovative event brought a number of qualified individuals to Northwest credit unions, with Friday’s event bringing more interviews and hires.

Hosted by Unitus in collaboration with seven other credit unions, the event reprised last year’s popular theme: “Take this job and LOVE IT!” Like last year’s event, it also featured music, catered lunch for all registered attendees, and prize giveaways for candidates who completed their “passport” by visiting each of the participating credit unions.

“Speaking with the credit unions involved, we were thrilled with the quality of candidates we spoke with during the event,” said Gayle Evans, Chief Human Resources Officer of Unitus. “There were many interviews conducted during the event, and off the top of my head, I know one candidate who was hired on the spot!”

One of the most popular and unique aspects of last year’s event, Evans refers to the designated “quiet areas” set aside so credit unions could conduct interviews with candidates immediately.

The participating credit unions spanned a wide range of sizes, with presence across Oregon and Washington. Those involved were Advantis Credit Union, Clackamas Federal Credit Union, First Tech Federal Credit Union, iQ Credit Union, OnPoint Community Credit Union, Point West Credit Union, Rivermark Community Credit Union, Trailhead Credit Union, and Unitus, the event hosts. The Young Credit Union Professionals (YCUP) and BankWork$ were also in attendance.

OnPoint Community Credit Union sponsored lunches for registered attendees, while Rivermark Community Credit Union and Golsan Scruggs Insurance and Risk Advisory co-sponsored the live DJ from The Bull.

“While we had the chance to speak with dozens of talented individuals Friday, the benefits of this event will last long into the future for our country,” said Steve Stapp, Unitus President/CEO. “In addition to promoting jobs, we are supporting a collective understanding that we all win when we support local communities and give people the chance to make a positive impact.”
