New PenFed Pathfinder American Express® Card rewards consumers everywhere they go, however they get there

No cap, no annual fee card gives up to 4x points on travel purchases and 1.5x points on all other

TYSONS, VA (January 16, 2018) — PenFed Credit Union, the nation’s second largest federal credit union, and American Express, today launched the PenFed Pathfinder Rewards American Express® Card. Combining the best attributes of travel and rewards cards into one, this new card gives more opportunities to earn points on travel and everyday purchases with no caps, no limits on rewards, no annual fee, and a low variable APR starting at 11.99%.

Pathfinder Cardholders earn 3x points on travel purchases and 1.5x points on all other purchases with the card. Pathfinder Cardholders earn 4x points on travel purchases and 1.5x points on all other purchases when they have a PenFed Access America checking account or are active or retired military.

“The PenFed Pathfinder American Express® Card sets a new standard for rewards cards by providing the most opportunities for Cardholders to earn the most points on life’s everyday travel and purchases, all with no annual fee,” said Kevyn Myers, Executive Vice President and President Payment Systems, PenFed Credit Union. “This card provides market-leading value to Cardholders – more points on more purchases and the freedom to redeem those points for anything they want.”

The PenFed Pathfinder Rewards American Express® Card also offers no foreign transaction fees, a $100 Global Entry or $85 TSA PreCheck credit (which renews every five years), and a $100 annual travel fund, which can be used for baggage fees and other qualifying incidental travel expenses. Travel benefits include trip cancellation and interruption insurance, travel and emergency assistance, baggage loss and delay insurance, travel accident insurance, and more. Current introductory offers include 25,000 Bonus Points when Cardholders spend $2,500 within the first 90 days.

“Pathfinder is providing the best of breed travel and every day reward benefits all in one card,” said John Kelly, Senior Vice President, Head of Payment Products & Services, PenFed Credit Union. “Pathfinder is the one card you need for both your everyday purchases and travel; whether you’re an on-the-go millennial or a boomer planning your family reunion, it all adds up. With Pathfinder you don’t have to be a world traveler to get world-class travel rewards.”

Credit card industry experts praise the card’s high-value rewards and competitive perks.

“The Pathfinder Rewards American Express® Card is breaking new ground by providing Cardholders the value and benefits of a high, annual fee card, without the annual fee,” said Jason Steele, Credit Card Expert, who reviewed the card on CreditKarma.com. “Pathfinder offers competitive rewards for both travel and everyday expenses, unprecedented for a card with no annual fee. It would be a mistake not to consider this card.”

“The new PenFed Pathfinder Rewards Card offers unprecedented perks for a no-annual-fee rewards card,” said Brooklyn Lowery, editor of CardRatings.com. “PenFed Pathfinder Rewards Cardholders can quickly rack up rewards close to home since the broad definition of ‘travel’ includes everything from commuter transportation and ride-sharing purchases to airfare and hotel stays,” Lowery said. “Knowing you’re earning bonus rewards toward your next getaway every time you take the bus into work just might make that Monday to Friday grind a bit more bearable.”

PenFed Pathfinder Rewards American Express® Card joins PenFed’s suite of award-winning credit cards that are recognized by credit card industry-watchers for their simplicity and value.

The PenFed Pathfinder Rewards American Express® Card launch will be supported by a national advertising campaign that breaks in February. The campaign will include print, radio, and TV.
