New York Credit Union Foundation awards more than $88,000 in grants for 2013

ALBANY, NY (January 23, 2014) -- The New York Credit Union Foundation (NYCUF) provided New York credit unions and credit union professionals/volunteers with a total of $87,993 in grants last year. Grants were awarded in three categories: Smart Money, Financial Fitness and Professional Development.

“Thanks to the support of the New York credit union community, NYCUF was able to successfully provide grants for professional development, financial education initiatives, member service improvements and disaster relief,” said Vicki O’Neill, NYCUF chair and president/CEO of ACMG FCU.

Seven credit unions received Smart Money grants to provide financial education to members and/or consumers: Buffalo Metropolitan FCU, East River Development Alliance FCU, Gates Chili FCU, Hudson River Community CU, ServU FCU, Cooperative Federal CU (Syracuse) and UFirst FCU. A total of $10,941 was awarded.

Seventeen credit unions received Financial Fitness grants to enhance their operations and improve service to members: Allegany Community FCU, Chen-Del-O FCU, East River Development Alliance FCU, Fidelis FCU, Gates Chili FCU, Greece Community FCU, GRS FCU, IRS Buffalo FCU, LeRoy FCU, Lockport Schools FCU, Lower East Side People’s FCU, Palisades FCU, Sing Sing EFCU, Spencerport FCU, St. John’s Buffalo FCU, Tonawanda Community FCU and Western New York FCU. A total of $35,874 was awarded to the credit unions.

Seventy-two credit union employees and volunteer leaders received Professional Development grants to help fund their participation in industry training sessions and education events. A total of $39,178 was awarded.

NYCUF also provided $2,000 to assist with national credit union disaster relief after the Colorado flooding and Oklahoma tornadoes.

“We see the summary report in the form of numbers and dollars, but those numbers actually represent hundreds of lives that have been impacted in a positive way,” said O’Neill. “That positive impact represents the best of what we collectively do to advance the ideals and goals of our movement.”
