SkyPoint launches community-oriented events to tackle critical issues in DMV area

GERMAN TOWN, MD (May 25, 2023)SkyPoint Federal Credit Union (SkyPoint) has been focused on this spring to help tackle and combat critical issues impacting children and the homeless in the DMV area.

The metropolitan Washington region experienced an 18% increase in homelessness between January 2022 and January 2023. SkyPoint has taken action this month, with leading its second annual Health and Hygiene Drive for the benefit of SkyPoint’s partner, Downtown Day Service Center (DDSC), a social services organization that offers services and support to individuals experiencing homelessness in Washington, DC. Items needed can be found on SkyPoint’s Amazon registry and can be dropped off at any SkyPoint branch or sent to: 19785 Crystal Rock Drive, Suite 201 Germantown, MD 20874 ATTN: Cassandre Cassamajor.

In 2022, only 36% of students in the DMV public school system passed the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers reading exam – a four-point drop from 2019. Ensuring the youth of the DMV region is well-educated so that they can achieve and have bright futures is a mission SkyPoint consistently supports through their various initiatives to drive greater financial literacy. This starts with elevating our regions reading abilities and resources to books. This spring, SkyPoint hosted a book drive in partnership with Easterseals (DC MD VA), Brothers with Books, which resulted in the donation of 528 books to schools throughout Montgomery County, including Brookhaven Elementary School and Montgomery Village Middle School.
