Northwest Federal adds Special Olympics Virginia to its Community Partners Program

HERNDON, VA (August 29, 2016)Northwest Federal Credit Union announces its newest Community Partnership with Special Olympics Virginia. The partnership includes sponsoring the organization’s Dulles Day 5K/10K on the Runway, held on September 17th in support of over 27,000 Special Olympics Virginia athletes.

“It’s important to us that we support events that make a real contribution to the fundraising efforts of our Community Partners,” said President and CEO of Northwest Federal, Chris McDonald. “The 5K/10K on the Runway is an exciting, local race that brings our community together to support a worthy cause. We’re proud to be a part of the experience, and even prouder to be a partner to Special Olympics Virginia.”

The organization offers sports training and competition for both children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Participants are part of a larger Special Olympics community, allowing them to develop friendships as well as physical fitness.

“At Special Olympics Virginia, we strive to help our athletes get fitter and healthier, with a chance to perform better and win,” said Special Olympics Virginia President Rick Jeffrey. “It’s because of new community partners like Northwest Federal Credit Union that we’re able to achieve this goal – together, we can all be better, fitter and win!”

The Community Partners Program invests in communities by allowing new members at Northwest to support local non-profit initiatives. Community Partners are able to use program funds to further their charitable activities ranging from scholarships to hands-on work, and their members may join the credit union.
