Northwest Federal Credit Union and its Foundation Partner to Support NOVA-Manassas Students and their Holiday Luncheon for Local Seniors

Herndon, Va. – For 21 years, students from the Manassas Campus of Northern Virginia Community College have celebrated the holidays by bringing an afternoon of food, fun and friendship to local senior citizens.

And this year, both Northwest Federal Credit Union Foundation and Northwest Federal Credit Union joined the event’s support team as sponsors and volunteers.

“NWFCU Foundation’s outreach primarily focuses on financial literacy and youth, but when possible, we also support the interests of our members and beneficial programs for our community as a whole,” said Linda Rogus, Executive Director of the Foundation. Among the efforts supported by the Foundation are disaster relief; Special Olympics; Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure; school supply give-ways; and drives for food, coats and toys. “We are very pleased that we could fill a void through sponsoring gifts and providing volunteers for this annual outreach to our community’s seniors. It was a great day for everyone involved.”

More than 150 people attended the Senior Holiday Luncheon on Nov. 29, which included a catered meal, musical entertainment and door prizes. Local meteorologist Chuck Bell emceed the program, which included remarks by Manassas Mayor Harry Parrish and NOVA-Manassas Provost Roger Ramsammy. Numerous college students and staff organized the event, and then were joined by sponsor volunteers to decorate the room, serve the meal and distribute gifts. Each guest received this year’s give-away: a warm winter scarf.

“The celebration is a true community partnership that would not be possible without the combined efforts of dozens of selfless people and support from our local businesses,” said Patricia Knight Gary, event organizer and math teacher at NOVA-Manassas. “Their assistance is invaluable.”
